Daddy Needs a New Pair of Shoes!

Beverly Blog

I read this article a while back about what types of shoes are good to wear when weight lifting. Thanks to Gordon for resurrecting it, as I had forgotten about it:
What Are The Best Weight Lifting Shoes for Squats & Deadlifts?

On that note, there are a ton of great shoes out there for Crossfitters, and most of them are cheap. Here are a few of my favorite shoes for our athletes, both male and female:

Onitsuka Tigers, resurrected by Asics. The original running shoe. My father-in-law used to mail-order these when he ran track in high school. They are a great all around shoe.

Another Classic, these soccer (aka football) shoes date back almost 50 years. Nice and flat for lifting, nice and light for running. Excellent Crossfit sneaker.

Flat and Light, plus they look great. FLAT and LIGHT is where its at!! Great for minimalist running and no give under heavy weights.

    As minimalist as it gets:

They protect your feet from glass, etc. but you feel EVERYTHING underneath as there is zero cushioning. All that separates your feet from the ground is a very thin layer of (Continental tire) rubber. From what I’ve been told, the soles are even thinner than the ones on the Vibram Five Fingers.

I have a pair and am slowly transitioning into them. I’ve been using Sambas and Frees, but these ones actually feel as though I’m wearing almost nothing, which has been a bigger mental stumbling block than I expected (especially when I land on a heel).

My brand new Sambas just came today from Zappos – will be wearing them tomorrow. Very excited they fit.
