About Us

North Shore CrossFit is a personal training studio. Every time you come in the gym you will be coached. Unlike most gyms we require that you work with a trainer. We believe that quality coaching helps get better results and prevents injury. We offer private and scheduled group training. North Shore CrossFit is a school of  fitness with locations in Topsfield and Beverly. We instruct basic to advanced level movements in private and class environments. Our program combines functional exercise, athletic conditioning, plyometrics, kettlebell training, olympic weightlifting, medicine ball training, and basic gymnastics. Our students are extremely diverse in their experience, conditioning, and lives. Our students include firefighters, students, triathletes, grandparents, business executives, stay-at-home moms, military personnel, and martial artists. Our atmosphere is one of support and camaraderie to anyone willing to put in the time and effort.

What makes us different?

  1. At North Shore CrossFit we have a very different philosophy than you will find in the mainstream fitness industry.  We believe true fitness is found in movement not isolation.  The ability to stand, sit, throw, lift, push, pull, climb and run define our fitness level.  These natural, primal, movements influence the exercise included in our programs.
  2. We are a community. Our clients work in a supportive and challenging environment where everyone is on a first-named basis. It’s easy to work hard when you’re surrounded by friends giving their best.
  3. We measure your results daily. We score and tally every workout so you always know where you stand.

Our workouts speak for themselves:

If you are new to working out or interested in going to the next level of fitness, our program is for you.  It is time to stop and think about what went wrong. Why can’t you move the way you used to move. Wouldn’t you like to feel the way you felt when you were ten? It is time to get off of those stumbling blocks to failure and come and try a class, if you like it, sign up. If you don’t, walk away. Simple.

Our Method
We utilize CrossFit as our training phylosophy, and focus our students on optimizing physical competence in each of the 10 recognized fitness domains :

10 Components Of Fitness

They are cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, speed, balance, and accuracy. You are as fit as you are competent in each of these ten skills. A regimen develops fitness to the extent that it improves each of these ten skills.

Importantly, improvements in endurance, stamina, strength, and flexibility come about through training. Training refers to activity that improves performance through a measurable organic change in the body.

By contrast improvements in coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy come about through practice. Practice refers to activity that improves performance through changes in the nervous system.

Power and speed are adaptations of both training AND practice.

1. Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance- The ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen.

2. Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store, and utilize energy.

3. Strength – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.

4. Flexibility – The ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.

5. Power – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply maximum force in minimum time.

6. Speed – The ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.

7. Coordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a singular distinct movement.

8. Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.

9. Balance – The ability to control the placement of the body’s center of gravity in relation to its support base.

10. Accuracy – The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity.
