They protect your feet from glass, etc. but you feel EVERYTHING underneath as there is zero cushioning.  All that separates your feet from the ground is a very thin layer of (Continental tire) rubber.  From what I&#039;ve been told, the soles are even thinner than the ones on the Vibram Five Fingers.

I have a pair and am slowly transitioning into them.  I&#039;ve been using Sambas and Frees, but these ones actually feel as though I&#039;m wearing almost nothing, which has been a bigger mental stumbling block than I expected (especially when I land on a heel).</description>
